The had-hitting editorial, The UPA Wall, ( Indian Express, March
1,2012) is a fitting rebuke to the
Central Government which expects the Opposition to help it in its
legislative initiatives like GST while withholding assent on more than
20 bills passed by the NDA governments by the governors and the
president. This is blatantly a case of misuse of power by UPA.
Whatever reservations the governors or the president has should be
conveyed to the state government, and if it is passed again, it should
get the assent. Later, it could be challenged in the High Court or the
Supreme court if it is unconstitutional. This elementary logic may be
beyond the self-centred UPA. It would cut the nose to spite the
Opposition. Cordial relations between the states and the centre would
reduce political friction and improve India's economic growth. It may
be necessary for the NDA governments to go to the Supreme Court to get
justice and uphold federalism enshrined in the Constitution.
