Siddhivinayak Temple Trust - A letter to the Editor

The Editor,The Mumbai Newsline, Mumbai.

Dear Sir,

Sub : Siddhivinayak Temple Trust.

This is with reference to your report on the above ( MN dt.9/3).Devotees of Siddhivinayak should be grateful to Kewal Semlani for his petition to the Hob'ble Bombay High Court regarding the use of temple trust funds. Since the Hon'ble High Court Bench has asked the petitioner and the state government to suggest criteria and guidance for the disbursement of Siddhivinayak Temple Trust Funds before the next hearing on April 12, allow me to state my views as an ardent devotee through your columns to the Hon'ble Bombay High Court Bench.

The Temple Trust Funds should be used for the following purposes :

1.Since a large number of devotees visit the temple the Trust should acquire surrounding land and provide a compound for the free movement of people.

2.The Trust should publish and distribute free or at subsidized price books/booklets on Siddhivinayak as well as on Hindu Religion and Culture in Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati and English. Ramakrishna Mission and Bhavan's University have a number of books on these subjects which could be distributed or re-printed with permission.

3.The Trust could set-up a Siddhivinayak Cultural Centre to promote sanscrit teaching, classical dances and classical music. It can start classes on these subjects to preserve our heritage.

4.The Trust can also adopt municipal schools and municipal hospitals in Prabhadevi, Dadar,Parel and other nearby areas which are in bad shape.

5. The Hon'ble Court can also consider better administration of the Trust Funds through a representative body of devotees on the line of Shiromani Gurudwar Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) to free it from the depredations of politicians.
